A hundred dollars for a Tarot deck? Are you kidding? How do you justify such a price? Those might be questions popping into your head. Let me try to answer them. This is much more than a Tarot deck. It is a limited edition work of art. This, in fact, is the First Edition of this deck, limited to 1000 copies. They have long been sold out on the creator's (Stephanie Buscema) website. The less collectible Second Edition, is only slightly less expensive. Apart from this being an investment in a rare collectible, this is without a doubt the most luxurious deck that I own. It comes in a very high quality and beautiful box. The guidebook (written by Madame Pamita herself) is stunning (although the typeface could stand to be slightly larger). And the quality of the card stock is nothing less than luxurious (albeit a touch slippery; a quality that I presume will recede with usage). But above all else is the absolute brilliance and originality of the artwork. I find so many decks that deviate from Pamela Coleman Smith's artwork to be garish or tacky or crude or cliched. But Stephanie Buscema's illustrations are none of the above. With uncanny skill she manages to combine whimsy with elegance, wonder with profundity, extravagance with austerity. Her command of the color palette is masterful and her overall aesthetic sensibility is fine tuned. It is a great pleasure just to behold these 78 illustrations apart from any divination inherent within them. And so, yes, this is an extravagant purchase. But for me it is an extravagant purchase that I do not regret.

This is a top shelf readers' and collectors' "must have" set! The fabulously cartoony deck artwork is absolutely delightful and adds an uplifting dimension to the classic Tarot symbolism. The accompanying booklet is written by my favorite magical author, Madame Pamita. I love her insightful, empathic descriptions of each card. Her booklet offers nuanced interpretations that others might miss. Bonus! Cards are sturdy, easy to shuffle, and the set includes a sweet, silver embroidered, black velveteen, storage bag!
